Teaching materials are one of the important tools in the learning process. But unfortunately, there are still many teachers who misunderstand about teaching materials, especially Indonesian. This research aimed to analyze the need for teaching materials based on the teacher’s perception in the context of communication, reasoning, and reading interest. This research used a mixed research method. Data were collected through a questionnaire form given to 211 teachers and interview results to 20 teachers. Then the data were analyzed using a data triangulation approach. The results of this research indicated that the need for teaching materials for elementary school students to solve reading difficulties includes grammar, material, and an attractive appearance, making it easier for teachers to convey the material. © 2023, North American Business Press.
