According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, the atmospheric temperature of Surabaya City averagely from 2012-2017 was 28,1° per year. In 2017, land use was developed by 48% and undeveloped land by 52%. This study aimed to determine the characteristics of Surabaya City's surface temperature distribution based on land cover characteristics and vegetation density in 2019. This study used a descriptive quantitative method with Overlay and Remote Sensing analysis techniques. The results of the analysis found that the dominant type of land cover in 2019 was undeveloped land (51%), and the vegetation density class was dominated by a very low density of green and a low density of green with a value of 0.4 - 0.25. In this case, the western part of Surabaya has a low surface temperature ranging from 23,2°C - 24°C, located in Pakal district. While the highest surface temperature (31°C - 41,1°C) is in the eastern part of Surabaya and the largest is in the Rungkut District. In conclusion, in the type of land cover and vegetation density class significantly affect the increase or decrease in surface temperature in Surabaya City. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
